University Librarian gets award for advancing librarianship

As the university librarian & head of the Cataloging & Classification Section, Ingua has spearheaded multiple projects and campaigns that have brought the library closer to people.

From the UPLB ALIVErary Books designed to create safe spaces and meaningful dialogues for difficult questions to be appreciated and answered, to the InfoSkilled program that aims to equip participants with efficient information needed to access skills and knowledge, Ingua has helped the library adapt to the changing world.

“On a professional level, one of the biggest challenges was navigating the rapid shift to digital libraries after the pandemic,” said Ingua.

This transition required intense consideration of what the library stood for and how it was affected by the onslaught of technological innovation. “I overcame this by continuously learning, embracing technological advancements, and leading programs that enhanced user engagement and accessibility.”

According to her, this ensures that the university library is not only shifting with digitalization but is redefining its role to fit into a digital-first world.

For Ingua, librarianship is not only about books, it is about shaping minds, bridging knowledge gaps, and being at the forefront of educational transformation despite the challenges that the work poses.

“Another ongoing challenge is ensuring that libraries and librarians receive the recognition and professional development opportunities they deserve,” she added.

The SAKTAL Woman Librarian Award honors Ingua for her dedication and outstanding contributions to her profession. It also highlights Filipino excellence and the impact of women in librarianship and information science.

Ingua has this message for all aspiring librarians, especially women, who aim to empower individuals, foster intellectual curiosity, and drive meaningful change within institutions and communities, “Be bold, embrace change, and continue advocating for inclusive and future-ready libraries.”

Under Ingua’s leadership, the University Library continues to cater to each individual student, staff member, and researcher who steps through the campus halls. It thrives and has become a home for intellectual growth through inclusive and culturally diverse library services. (Mikaela Rhinoa D. Delos Reyes)
