The University Library program that launched “human books” in April has a new name – the UPLB LIVErary BOOKS.

This was made official during an event on Sept. 18 at the UPLB Main Library lobby, BM Gonzalez Hall.

Formerly called Human Library, this adopted program was developed in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2000. It was designed to create a platform coordinated by the library to build a positive framework for conversation that can help readers overcome their stereotypes and prejudices through meaningful dialogues.

As the University Library has decided to have its own version inspired by the original Human Library, the UPLB LIVErary BOOKS is no longer just a one-time event, but rather a continuing library service.

Just like in any library, readers could browse the UPLB LIVErary BOOKS catalogue, and decide which “book” to “read” and “borrow” for an hour at a time. The only difference is that in UPLB LIVErary BOOKS, books are people, and reading means engaging in conversations.

As of this writing, UPLB LIVErary BOOKS has 14 volunteers who have held conversation sessions with readers. Among these, the Whose Child Am I? was awarded as the Best Read LIVErary Book during the event.

On top of the UPLB LIVErary BOOKS, the University Library has also introduced the LIVErary Sessions. It offers an optimistic learning experience for individuals to develop new skills and talents with experts as the teachers.

Lined-up topics for the LIVErary Sessions include paper pot making, urban gardening, baking, and basic photography.

The UPLB LIVErary BOOKS and LIVErary Sessions both focus on the strengths of humans. They also provide avenue to help the university constituents manage stress.

During the UPLB LIVErary BOOKS launch, its official logo was unveiled.
