The University of the Philippines Los Baños School of Environmental Science and Management (UPLB-SESAM) is an academic institution that leads in the environmental education initiative of the university. Its evolution spans three decades from the 1970's to the 1990's.

Mandate

The School is an integrated program of environmental instruction, research and extension which stresses sustainable and productive use of the environmental capital of the Philippines. It is tasked to coordinate and consolidate university-wide efforts to develop and offer higher academic degrees on environmental science and management.

Visions

• Offer our people world-class opportunities for higher education in the fields of environmental science and management consistent with the Filipino aspirations.

• Sharpen the human resource base of the country to meet the expanding needs of the Filipino people in a manner that fully respects the limits of nature.

• Command respect as a center of knowledge on the environment.

• Consolidate the wide variety of talents, expertise and scholarship in its core staff, the university as a whole, and the sectors and instrumentalities of civil society, to sharpen scientific investigations and scholarship on how Filipinos struggle to keep their natural capital and environmental amenities intact, even as they similarly struggle to improve their material and political standing in the community of nations.

Library

The School's library is open to UPLB students, faculty and staff, NGOs and GOs and other universities. It houses up-to-date references and other materials on a wide array of topics related to environmental sciences. On the average, the Library caters to at least 50 users daily. The library's database is continuously being updated to facilitate locating files and other references.
