Library is now WiFi connected

The University Library is now Wi-Fi connected from basement to second floor. Wi-Fi stands for Wireless Fidelity which allows local area networks (LANs) to be deployed without cabling for client devices, typically reducing the costs of network deployment and expansion. Wireless network adapters are now built into most laptops therefore, students, faculty, researchers and staff can now bring their laptops/notebooks and surf the internet for FREE! Just log on to "mainlib-student-wifi, mainlib-faculty-wifi-1 and mainlib-faculty-wifi-2" network.

WiFi connection is free but the use of electricity in charging laptops is not. It cost about PhP 50.00 per hour. However, for undergraduate students who have their Internet Card they can use it for charging their laptops. (V.P. Alcantara)

New set of LanTEEAL now available

LanTEEAL 2.0, a brand-new version of the "agricultural library in a box", is now available at the Computer Services and Multimedia Section of the University Library. From its initial 140 journal titles, nine (9) journal titles were added making it 149 journals, most spanning from 1993 through 2008. These journals encompass diverse fields of the agricultural sciences, from agricultural economics and crop improvement to food science and nutrition and natural resources management.

This new version of TEEAL has an easy-to-use interface, which lets you query and browse an entire database of citations You also have access to the full text of each article indexed in TEEAL--just click a link and the article appears, with no need for Internet. Students, faculty, researchers and staff can carry out Simple and Advanced Searches using keywords, dates, authors, titles, etc. They can browse the content of every journal issue, just like in a real library. Abstracts and articles can be viewed, saved, and printed. (V.P. Alcantara)

Centennial Exhibit of UPLB Publications

The University Library and the Centennial Publications Committee Cluster joined together to put up an exhibit of UPLB Publications from 1909 to present. It was launched on September 10, 2009, with Dr. Rita P. Laude, Vice Chancellor for Instruction, as the special guest. Unlike some other launching of exhibits which is commonly done by cutting of ribbons, the event was opened by switching ON the spotlights focus on different publications. This exhibit marked as a contribution to the UPLB Centennial Celebration. Researchers, Faculty and Staff from the different Colleges were asked to participate by allowing to display their respective publications published/presented locally and abroad.

The exhibit of UPLB publications was presented and arranged in chronological order of events in 100 years of the University's existence starting from: Founding Years (1909-1921); Pre-war Period (1922-1943); Post Liberation (1945-1971); Early Autonomous (1972-1982); and Autonomous (1983 to Present).

One of the highlights of the exhibit is the PowerPoint presentation of some UPLB Scientists, Researchers, Faculty and Extensionists who have contributed a lot in the growth of the Library collection through their publications since the founding of the University in 1909. Prof. Aldo T.
